Grand Opening

Hey Everyone,

Real quickly a little bit about who I am and what this blog is all about. I am an Asian American student studying out here in soCAL with a tiny obsession with makeup and beauty products. This tiny obsession has led to some of the best discoveries along with truly amazing numbers on my credit card bill. I've also recently discovered the AMAZING beauty blogs on the net (some of my favorite will be listed below) and that combined with the no so gentle prodding of my friends have led me to decide to create my own! I do lament the lack of beauty information geared towards Asian and Asian American women in mainstream literature and hope to share my own finds, tips and horror stories. I also hope this will lead to other Asian American women sharing their own experiences and product reviews. :)

so for my first post I want to share with you guys something near and dear to my heart....and wallet.

Thrifty Make-Up Finds That I Can't Live Without
Being a college student I've found has come to mean:
Fruit and vegetables don't have to be part of an essential diet
3am is the the new 12am
Procrastination is everyone's favorite hobby
There are 101 uses for quarters
being poor is part of your daily existence

sure high-end products are snazzy but how great does it feel to spend 5 dollars on something that works better than some expensive make up product whose name you can't even pronounce
with that said here's my Top 5:

1. Almay Eyeliner (liquid and pencil)
AMAZING stuff. not only are both easy to use, have a true black color and easily accessible what clinched the deal for me was the staying power! I barely have an eye crease and have been doomed with oily lids so by noon what I thought was a happening look has turned into a great impression of a racoon, but this stuff stays on and stays put.

2.Wetn'Wild Eyeshadow Trio
Now before you crinkle your forehead in utter confusion let me just say at 2.99 a pop its worth the curiosty. I love eyeshadows, even though they don't often love me back. I usually stick with the browns and violets and only the greens when I'm feeling particularly daring. This is because with a tiny fold I often suffer from the just-been-socked-in-the-face look if i'm not careful with application. I have tried eyeshadows from MAC to Laura Mercier to Nars to L'Oreal. Wet'n'Wild is worth a try, highly pigmented, easy to blend and won't make you cringe for years if it breaks or gets lost.

3. Got2be Sexy Voluptous Volume Mousse.
If big sexy hair is your thing, then this is your product. I personally have limp somewhat fine hair and this does amazing things to it, mainly turning it into someone else's hair. I work a dollop into wet hair, flip over and blowdry and bam! my hair doubles in volume.

4. Rosebud Salve
Mmmmmm just writing about this stuff makes me want to put some on. Great texture, moisturizes my lips and in a cinch also moisturizes my cuticles. In the winter the skin on my hand often cracks up and jeebus it hurts! I put a bit of this on there and it heals in a jiffy. O and did I mention the it has just the slightest hint of color which is great for my lips.

5.Suave daily clarifying shampoo
First off this product is definetly not for everyone. I love it because I have oily hair that always gets build up and I really need something that will clean it thoroughly without stripping it dry. I have tried neutrogena, pantene, aveda, fresh, you name it but this has been the only consistent shampoo that leaves my hair squeaky clean and fresh. Did I also mention its like a dollar per bottle?

so here's to my first entry! I hope at least one person will read it and get something out of it. leave me some feedback about anything and everything.

take care,
SmileBIG
